Planning a Photographic Shoot P2 (a)

Planning a Media Product/Photographic Shoot

What is my media product?
I aim to produce a simplistic yet effective portrait image, that could either be used for an interview in a magazine or for product promotion.

It is most likely it will not be for a branded product, as the focus will be the models facial features, rather than what they are wearing or their surroundings.

The image will most likely be black and white, using a mixture of high key lighting (three point lighting) and a chiaroscuro effect.  I am a great fan of portrait images, especially ones that reveal every single feature or imperfection on a models face, rather than stereotypical modelling or fashion photography that more often than not, intends to hide all imperfections and is highly edited to make the model look 'perfect'. However as I may intend to use this image for a magazine interview, I may decide to change my initial idea and opt for high key lighting to achieve a sharp, bright image for the magazine.

Fitness for Purpose

The portrait should show a celebrity or iconic woman, the photographs would be to support an article about this person. It will be published n a fashion magazine and illustrate the persons success and fashion sense. The celebrity may be promoting a new release or up and coming tour. As one of the most famous women in the music industry, and is likely to be appearing everywhere in the media, so these images could be used for promotion for albums and tours, as well as the main focus, which would be the new face of a high end fashion magazine.

I would target this image for readers of late teens upwards. The image will be of a young woman, famous or high up in the world and about her success. So the image needs to reflect her success and achievements, in the simplest ways possible. Many readers may be enticed by the article so the image must be fit for purpose.

I absolutely adore this image. It shows Albert Einstein's facial features very sharply. The use of shadow here is also very effective. The overall image is very simple, but somehow reflects his intelligence. Everything about this image is of fine quality. So simple yet so effective.

Again, simplicity at its best. An eye level, front on portrait image of Marilyn Monroe. Something I aim to achieve with my shoot. Simple yet effective.

This image portrays Marilyn Monroe's class and elegance. Th use of shadow helps to define her facial features. The long earrings reflect her success, as they are most likely to be expensive. The different tones in this image entices me, the background is light at the bottom but much darker at the top, this contrasts with the high key, very light face of Marilyn Monroe.

This image is extremely sharp. It shows every single feature and imperfection in this persons face. The aperture causes a shallow depth of field, keeping the viewers focused on the subject. His face in just off centre but still takes up a great proportion of the image. His face has been lit with high key lighting, and the black background contrasts with his face. The facial expressions really show his true emotions, which seems to be sad or upset, and the cigarette in his mouth emphasises the emotions we see.
